Step 4

SHIFT+drag on our canvas to create our heart. We hold the SHIFT key to maintain the aspect ratio. That done, click on the ‘paths’ panel and CRTL+click the work path to select it.

Step 5

Make a new layer, click the Foreground color picker and choose a nice pinky color. We can now use the paint bucket tool again to fill our heart. Get rid of the selection by pressing CRTL+D.

Step 6

We are now going to add a layer style to the heart. If you look at the bottom of the layer panel you will find some icons. The second from the left is the ‘add layer style’ icon. Clicking on it brings up a menu of different options. Choose the ‘Bevel and Emboss’. That done, a screen appears which gives you control over your bevel. There are quite a lot of things we can do here, but you can leave it at the default values if you wish. Hopefully you will be experimenting now and finding cool effects.

Step 7

When you are happy with your heart, hit ‘T’ on the keyboard to activate the type tool. After you have decided on the font, color and size, you can give it another layer style. Here I have plumped for a black ’stroke’ effect, which basically outlines the text.
