Textured buttons

This tutorial will guide you in creating a textured button using some of Photoshop’s filters and lighting effects. Here’s what we should be finised with: Create a new Photoshop document that’s well suited for the button’s size. 3:1.2 ratio should be about right. Create a new layer and use the marquee tool to draw a rectangle on your canvas. Set the feather value of the marquee to about 5. Using a scatter brush paint the area inside the rectangle. The less a flat color is used the better. This will allow you to obtain a richer texture when the filter is applied. You will notice that we’ve obtained rich variations of the color purple. This will be essential for when we apply the Photoshop Lighting Effects filter, as the function is based on treating the image in a three dimensional fashion. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen More to apply a strong sharpen filter.
