Once you have made the path, you can delete any anchor point; add an anchor point by the additional tools that are available in the drop down menu of the pen tool.

For example if you want to add a point choose the Add anchor Point Tool and click on the path where you want the new point to be.
To delete a point, select the Delete Anchor Tool and click on the anchor point you want to get rid off. By using the Direct Selection Tool you can relocate the points, move the tangents to control the curves.

Fill this path with a color, and then it can be used as a clip Mask.
In the Path panel, (Window> Path) you will see your path. Below you will see an icon which labels “Load Path as Selection”. Once you click this you will get a marquee selection. (Sort of marching ants).

Go to the Layer panel and insert a new layer by clicking on the small note icon at the bottom of the Layer panel
